  After both removing and re-installing the game and pirate DLC, we were still experiencing this issue with the Danzir fight. We ended up going to camp, the client player transferred his party members to me and I went and completed the fight while he was in a disconnected state. As long as he was not 'logged in' but the game had initially thought he was, I could start and finish the fight. After the fight was over I saved, and we camped again and I transferred his characters back. It seems to be the only way we could get through this fight. Not a great workaround and I'm hoping the next leaderboard battle doesn't cause the same issue.
  
  Danzir was the first leaderboard fight that caused this issue. The only other factor being it's the first one that has taken place after we added a ballista to the ship.... who knows.

  I found this bug happens the most often with ghost packs but can occur with any fight but usually occurs MUCH less often when I turn my VPN off

  Got this bug 2-3 times in coop. We all get a black screen but if you move the mouse and hover on buttons/characters (that you can't see as it's all black) you get the tooltips that pop up and are displayed : means the game is not stuck, you just don't see the characters, terrain and buttons.

  We are getting this bug in ship-to-ship fight with Danzir. The host gets to the black screen, with UI and sound functioning except for the combat map. I can end turns or move blindly, and get tool tips when hovering over the black portion of the screen. The co-op client player never gets loaded from the overworld map. If I try to reload a game, he will reload as well so he is still connected/responding.
  
  If I try to reload the autosave at start of Danzir fight, the host gets into the fight, but the client player never finishes loading. We have checked file integrity, restarted, etc. If I try to surrender to get back out of the fight, it hangs for me.

  @TankyJoe we have the same issue. host can play/fight the leaderboard captains, joined player gets black screen. on all pirate content. removed and re-installed. still happend. we used same work around with the transfers. joined party cant click the secrets and upgrade the ship either.

  I have noticed that this error usually happens in the main fights, (the story ones, the purple ones) enters the fight and gets stuck on a black screen and I have to force the game to close with the task manager because it stays completely frozen. It has already happened to me twice in the mission "Sentenced to Death" when I have to choose a side just before starting the fight what I said before happens.

  Super annoying bug. Happens so often. If you forget to save before entering a fight... you lose lot of time...
  Can always happen for me. no matter if ghostback or normal bounty quest.

  I still see the User Interface. Can happen when you enter a town or a fight.
  Sometimes i can play for hours and it's ok. sometimes i get it every 5-10 min.
  Sometimes I also get an out of memory bug. Maybe these are connected (https://wartales.featureupvote.com/suggestions/516203/out-of-memory-error)

  Son in law, friend and I in a coop game, went to take out a rat's nest screen goes black have info up just black screen. Tried reloading the game 3 times with same result.

  i think it happens if you attack 2 groups one after the other in short intervals, the 2nd group loading screen ends in a black screen. Sometimes it also happens for no reason at all.

  Had this happen on a fight with bandits in the first area - Nothing special about the fight, but I had to force quit the game. After force quitting, when I restarted, the game window was down in the lower right corner. Had to quit and restart again.

  Happened to us yesterday for the first time in a 154 hour coop game. Fight at the sheepfold in Drombach. When the fight began, host screen was normal, but other player only had black screen, could move cursor but nothing else (cursor would move on host screen).

  Since the last updates, this happens in our coop game at the load of almost every fight - game loads for me (host), black screen for coop partner.
  
  - Having to rehost every few minutes makes it really hard to play together! -

  Having this bug in Drombach with co-op save. Host can see the battle screen but partners screen is black. I can see his mouse moving around highlighting characters but their screen remains black, even through reloads and computer restarts. Has happened twice both with story fights regarding picking which group to attack I think, Current bugged fight is the Drombach fishery where you free the slaves.

  It's also happening with the fight where you have to choose a side between the trackers and the academics with the caged ghost animals. Like twenty times. It won't load the actual battle. Just freezes with black screen.

  This is still happening in every fight of our 140+ hour multiplayer game. All characters are level 9 or 10, so it's late game. We started a new multiplayer, and we are not getting blackscreen there. Did the last update/patch break older saves?

  This happened to me about 3 times today. 2 times it recovered but the third it did not. Oddly enough I was able to hit ESC to get the menu on the last time. Two of the times were at the start of combat and the other was after departing an area. This was after many hours of playing. On the second time it also crashed my web browser in the background. Maybe a memory leak issue?

  @DP same here. Savegame with lots of hours (100+) in does not work at all = getting blackscreen for coop partner every time we try to enter a map/battle. Not going to start from zero again, so we stopped playing altogether. :((
  
  I think Shiro might not be looking into this post as it's already marked as "unable to reproduce", so if you have similar problems with coop blackscreens, maybe upvote this one?

  After we entered Drombach County and the 1st fight , my friend got black screen.
  We both re-installing game but nothing changed.
  Is there any solution?

  Same things are happening to me and my friend in co-op we can't do any fighting except the host alone or if the host plays singleplayer that save file.
  Except for the host everyone gets a black screen right after the loading schreen that goes in to a fight.
  Is there any solution?

  Temporary solution for black screen is If you happen to encounter one with the UI still showing up you can try to save the game and then load it back. All cities and locations should load up just fine it worked for me in Smol Arena when I couldn't beat the champion 'cause after defeating him the screen just truned black and the game refused to let me trough. When i saved, left to main menu and then reloaded the save file i could defeat him and go on with my playtrough. Another time I've entered some cave the one with the dead wolf inside of it and tried 5 times to enter it loading in older saves and restarting the game. Only saving the game while blackscreen accured when I was inside the cave and loading it allowed me to see the location.
  
  idk how long can i tolerate this 'cause the vision that at some point I won't be able to bypass the bug and it will fuck up my playthrough is stressing me out. It's a shame that devs are so incompetent that the game runs worse than in first beta.

  Having the same issue with Eokeld fight but both me (host) and friend I'm playing with will get a the notification that a storm is approaching and then the game freezes. Only thing I can do is reload a save, tried reloading several times but didn't work. if anyone knows any work arounds we're trying to 100% the game.

  Can´t go in the pit in Uldren either one of the challenges there we always get blackscreened also on low quality... anyone else with this problem or know how to solve it?

  Every fight my brother and I (both on Xbox series x) have encountered so far had been smooth even throughout Goosenberg than we waltz into Drombach and my brother gets black screened every fight I haven't but I assume that's because I am hosting. Honestly I don't think I want this game or Dlc's anymore, if it's not a coop issue it's black screens or the old stuck screen at the start of battle. We have level 11 troops and only run 13 troop members

  Earlier today I used search and responded to another player who was having this issue with the tournaments. That particular post was a few months back and I was the first to upvote it, so in the interest of visibility I will post in this thread as well (which I should have done to begin with, my apologies).
  
  Anyhow, this issue is plaguing me in the Vertruse tournament. The problem presents just as described by the user Sus on 12 Dec, 2024. Black screen, with only a few elements of the interface visible, again looks just like the screenshot provided in Sus's post. Due to this issue I simply cannot advance beyond the 3rd round of the tournament. Saving (both quick and manual), logging out and back in, going to camp, multiple attempts to bypass the black screen after winning the 3rd round, and trying to wait it out (over 10 minutes), all result in the same thing: That black screen and when reloading, the game acting as if the 3rd round was not even fought.

  Black screen with UI available and functional, not when a fight begin but when one of ou character start a chat after the camp have rested. Can't save a game nor leave the camp, it's stuck. Just lost a 2h epic battle with that crap

  Two Xbox players here. We have played for years. We are now in Domback and maybe 4 out of 5 fights we start, my husband gets a black screen. You can still see his characters in my screen but he can’t access them. We have tried everything! Most frustrating is that all I see is this channel on reporting the bug but no status or updates from Shiro. I see messages from 2023!

  Hello,
  For me, this bug isn’t consistently reproducible—it occurs randomly. However, I can be sure that it appears at least once during every gaming session.
  It manifests as a black main screen (see attachment), while the windows remain visible and the music continues to play.
  The BIG problem is that it completely crashes the PC (ALT+F4, CTRL+ALT+DEL, or any other key combination doesn’t work), and it requires a hard shutdown and reboot.
  While I’m at it, there’s another bug that appeared after the latest release: exiting the game has become very difficult.
  The confirmation window that appears after clicking “Return to Menu” shows up twice in quick succession (even though one click is enough), and afterward, clicking “Quit” leads randomly to either a successful exit (very rare), a pop-up ad in the bottom right corner, or... a total PC crash.

  I'm having an issue where, when I go to Smots Arena and finish round 2, I get this black screen. I can enter camp and do anything, but can't see the arena lobby. can't leave or interact with anything. I reloaded the save and got the same outcome. Also noticed that starting the fights, my health and armor were reset to max when they needed to be repaired after the first round. Also, my fighters and the opponents had all the buff and debuff icons on their character, and some were starting with 12 stacks of poison as if they were being transferred and multiplied every time I retry round 2

  This is happening to me everytime I attempt an arena battle. I have already wiped my saves TWICE thinking it was a corrupt save but now with all these comments I can see it is a bug with the game. When I win a match, instead of going to the next screen to heal/repair, I get a black screen and I can hear my troops walking in the wilderness. I then can enter the camp and upon exiting the camp I am outside the arena . Also, all the buffs and debuffs that were on my companions during the last round of the arena are still active on them. This is clearly a bug and I find it ridiculous that the DEVs can not replicate this issue themselves. Sounds more like a "we can see it ourselves so its not real" excuse to the problem.

  I found the cause of this and was able to fix it in my environment.
  
  To cut to the chase, this error occurs due to insufficient virtual memory.
  My virtual memory was around 8GB, but when I returned it to the system-managed size, the error completely disappeared.
  I hear that the Wartales management was unable to reproduce the issue due to virtual memory issues.
  
  If you're having trouble with this, try increasing your virtual memory capacity.

  Hi, not sure if this will help anyone else, but I was able to resolve this issue for me (for now) by disabling shadows in the game settings.
  
  I was getting constant freezing and black screens in the game, rendering it unplayable. I tried setting all graphics options to the lowest and this stopped the freezes, then I tried gradually ramping up graphics settings until the issue occurred again. No other graphic setting seemed to cause the issue for me except shadows, and even setting shadows to "low" immediately caused me problems.

  Me and my friend was having this same issue. We tried disabling every weather effect and setting everything on low. ALWAYS PLAY WITH SHADOWS OFF will solve at least 10% of the bugs by itself.

  This error appeared out of nowhere for us — suddenly, while loading a battle, my co-op partner couldn’t join the fight anymore. His screen just stayed black. We both disabled weather effects and shadows, restarted the game, adjusted the virtual memory — nothing helped. We couldn’t start another battle tonight despite several reboots and many attempts to fix it. Very strange...
